In-Water Infrastructure
Creative Solutions in Dynamic Environments
NSD specializes in infrastructure repair, retrofit and replacement by creating functional in-water and riparian habitats based on proven science and engineering. We provide a two-fold service model: while repairing the infrastructure problem, we work directly with permitting agencies to restore fish passage and keep the project moving forward.

Problem: Large storm events damaged a pair of culverts and compromised the stability of the road and adjacent streambank, threatening the passage of the stream crossing.
Approach: The design included reconstruction of 300 ft. of channel and stabilization of collapsed 25 ft. tall stream banks to protect a trunk sewer and a side sewer that crossed through the project area.
Solution: NSD provided construction supervision for installation of the culvert and in-stream habitat elements, including 140 pieces of large woody material.
Result: The completed project restored fish passage to upstream habitat for migrating salmon and trout.
